Sewing Tutorial: How to Make Hair Ties

OK, first off I want to apologize for lying to you in the title, there is absolutely no sewing involved in this tutorial. This is all about how to make your own hair ties.

I am posting this tutorial because it is simple enough for anyone to do and because it does not cost very much either!

Materials

• 1 Meter of thin stretchy elastic. I bought my stash from Dressew. 1 M will let you make 4 hair ties.
• Fabric shears
• Measuring tape
• Lighter or candle

Step 1

Measure and cut elastic to 9 inches. 9 inches is good for almost anyone to twist twice around a ponytail. 

If you have extra thick hair, cut 9.5 inches.

Step 2

With wrong sides of the elastic facing, tie a knot close to the ends. Leave a  bit of a tail (0.5 inches approx).

Step 3

Trim off any loose elastic threads from the raw edge.

Avoid fraying of your elastic by sindg'ing the raw edges with a lighter or candle.
