INSTRUCTIONAL RATES

We all learn at our own pace, so that’s why we ONLY offer one on one lessons catered to your sewing and design goals on a per hour basis. Each level has a set instructional rate per hour, so no hidden costs. 

Instructional rates are set based on the level of instruction being provided to our clients. We provide beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of instruction. Each client moves at their own pace. There are no set hours per instructional level.

Beginner Instruction $63/HR

This level of instruction is solely dedicated to complete beginners to sewing. You are a beginner if you have never touched a sewing machine or need a proper review from past instruction.

At the beginner level of instruction, you can expect to cover the following techniques.
  • How to thread, trouble shoot and maintain a domestic sewing machine.
  • How to operate an over-lock serger machine.
  • How to read basic industry patterns.
  • How to prepare, pin, cut and mark fabric prior to construction. 
  • How to present a professional looking project with proper pressing skills.
  • Solid understanding of basic construction techniques such as seams, seam finishes, basic zipper installation and hems.
  • Basic pattern drafting involved with non-complex accessories.
  • Projects at this level can include accessories, skirts and knit t-shirts.
BOOK LESSONS

Intermediate Instruction $86/HR

​Clients in this level already have a strong understanding of all the techniques list above in the beginner instructional level. More emphasis on introducing pattern drafting for the body and garment construction is covered.

At the intermediate level of instruction, you can expect to cover the following areas.
  • How to thread, operate, and maintain an industrial single needle sewing machine.
  • How to operate an instruction over-lock serger machine.
  • Introduction to reverse pattern drafting of non-complex garments.
  • Introduction to basic pattern drafting of blocks such as bodice, skirt, sleeve and torso. Measure, draft, cut and sew a toile (fit sample). Understand fit and the necessary pattern adjustments for your body.
  • Fitting and adjusting commercial patterns to fit your body. Work through the garment construction process of commercial patterns. Variety of industrial and hand sewing techniques covering more complex stitches, markings, seam finishes, hems, buttonholes, fasteners, pockets and closures.
  • Gain confidence in working with more complex fabrics such as silk, wool, satin, and stretch jerseys.
  • Projects can include 3D accessories, skirts, dresses, blouses, tailored shirts, knit garments, and personal blocks.
BOOK LESSONS

Advanced Instruction $109/HR

​Clients at the advanced level of instruction generally focus on personal designs or designs for their clothing label. They have already created their own basic blocks that fit and have a very strong understanding in garment construction.

At the advanced level of instruction, you can expect to cover the following areas.
  • Introduction to pattern drafting more complex blocks such as pants, jackets, blazers, and leotards. Measure, draft, cut and sew a toile (fit sample). Understand fit and the necessary pattern adjustments for your body.
  • Pattern draft your own designs through flat pattern drafting or draping. Create a toile (fit sample) and make necessary adjustments to the patterns for a perfect fit.
  • Dive deeper into reverse pattern drafting of more complex garments that involve lining, pockets, plackets, collars and more.
  • Construct designs with a higher level of sewing techniques involving couture applications. Some clients create demi or full couture designs.
  • Gain confidence in working with challenging complex fabrics such as velvet, lace, lycra, double faced wool, and print matching fabric.
  • Projects at this level are not limited. They include all projects listed in beginner and intermediate levels of instruction. Swimwear, lingerie, outerwear, blazers, trousers, and more.
